Shadows of the State adapts open source research and satellite image interpretation in order to investigate spy radio signals known as numbers stations. Using these techniques it locates thirty of their clandestine transmitters, scattered across the globe from Russia to Liberia, Cyprus to South Korea.

This photograph shows the suspected broadcast site of a shortwave numbers station known as Cynthia,  which was believed to have been operated by the United States Central Intelligence Agency.

Inkjet printing (sometimes known as giclée) is an art printing process, where tiny dots of ink are sprayed through a series of nozzles on to paper. The result is exceptional detail and a wider colour gamut than is possible with traditional photographic C-type prints.
